Night of the Murder: May 14, 2025
The Halcyon Institute’s annual Museum Gala brought together donors, journalists, senior staff, and researchers for an evening meant to celebrate the institution’s future. Beneath the formal speeches and fundraising, tensions had been building around hidden records, disputed ownership claims, and financial misconduct.
Dr. Elias Verner, the museum’s chief historian, had recently uncovered evidence capable of exposing decades-old secrets and threatening powerful people connected to the institute. Throughout the evening, he appeared anxious, repeatedly checking a brass key he kept close and sending a cryptic final message shortly before withdrawing to the Archive Room.
Around 9:30 PM, while the gala continued below, Dr. Verner died inside the locked archive. The room was sealed, critical documents vanished, and evidence pointed in multiple directions. By the time the door was opened, it was clear the death was not an accident.
Someone at the gala had turned buried history into murder.
